Abstract :
This paper presents an analytical method for calculating the direct- and quadrature-axis inductances of the universal AC commutator motor, suitable for use in design calculations. These inductances are important in understanding the steady-state and transient behaviour, and the commutation. The analysis concentrates on the parameters affecting these inductances, and draws attention to the rarely-mentioned reluctance torque of this machine.
