Abstract :
A high-efficiency Line Start Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine (LSPMSM) is designed in the paper to meet efficiency requirements, which can be expected for motors of a class IE4 in a new standard classification. A magnetically linear analytical model of the LSPMSM has been developed, and investigated, to be a main part of a synthesis program. The task to find a best design solution has been defined as a bi-criterial optimization problem, with criterial functions representing the interest of both the producer and end user. Calculation results were validated by means of a magnetically non-linear FEM model, before and after the optimization. A high level of conformity has been attained. Results for all efficiency classes, IE1 - IE4, have been presented. A proposed Class IE4 motor offers particularly high savings of total electrical energy. All obtained designs satisfy requirements arising from the geometry, physics, and manufacturing process.
