Abstract
Dynamic route guidance is an essential and fundamental technology for the development and application of car navigation systems. Functional tests of the roadside infrastructure are being conducted under the direction of various government agencies to determine the viability of this system as a provider of the dynamic information required for dynamic route guidance functions. If these tests are completed successfully in the near future, traffic centers will be able to collect a wide range of vehicle information, making it possible to provide detailed information according to current driver needs, for more efficient road use and ensuring safe, smooth traffic flow. Route searching is the fundamental technology most important to effective route guidance. When the route guidance function is considered, it is necessary to provide the driver with as many different routes as possible, at least for distant destinations. The on-board system also requires a function to constantly monitor that the driver is driving safely and judge whether the suggested dynamic route can actually be travelled. This paper discusses the multiple route search algorithm as a technology fundamental to the dynamic route guidance function. It also introduces the front vehicle recognition algorithm as a technology fundamental to the driving condition monitoring function
