Abstract
Effective traffic signal control, practical signal controller implementation, and optimum timing design are important to urban operations. Computer simulation programs are often used for off-line analysis. The “real-time, on-line simulation” or “hardware-in-the-loop” design by combining control hardware and performance evaluation is promising. This paper describes an innovative input/output interface design to take advantage of the available simulation models to improve future signal controller design and field maintenance
