Abstract :
The progress in embedded low-cost 4-bit microprocessors development has been extended by combining a 4-bit microcomputer with a maskable gate array and onboard LCD display drivers on a single chip. The integration of all basic functions of a microprocessor with the addition of customizable circuitry adds flexibility, reliability and low power consumption and reduced cost. This paper will describe the 4-bit microprocessor, the gate array, LCD drivers and peripherals; presenting the key benefits and important aspects of this unique architecture. A description of emerging techniques and circuitry used in the 4-bit microprocessor to lower power consumption for battery operated equipment will be explained in detail. Examples will provide engineers with a clear understanding of the many applications that are possible using this particular microprocessor architecture
