Abstract
Summary form only given. In this paper, we design a modular, robust, high-voltage impulse power supply for pulsed power applications. The capacitor has to be charged to a voltage variable between 5 to 20 kV to be successively discharged on the inductor. Associated protection circuits are described in detail. The advantages of these devices are described together with a description of the performance achieved by the various devices. These power supplies have been designed for high duty cycle operation. It seems possible that nanosecond switching times and charging of thousands of voltage are feasible. The design is modular and the power supply can be made smaller or large depending on the desired voltage rating
