Abstract :
MPEG-4 proposes a method in which an image is represented as a "mesh " and motion compensation is accomplished by spatial transformation to reduce temporal redundancy in video compression. The motion vectors of nodes are estimated and the displacement of each pixel within the patches is interpolated from its corresponding nodes. In the quad-tree mesh, a simple patch becomes complex when it is not split but its neighboring is. In this paper, we proposed the generalized bilinear interpolation to overcome the discontinuity problem which is resulted if the bilinear interpolation is applied to a complex patch directly. The patch can be deformed from a rectangle to a quadrilateral or a polygon by the generalized bilinear interpolation. Experimental results showed that higher PSNR are also obtained from our proposed method than those from others.
