Abstract :
In this research an axial flux permanent-magnet machine for low power application is presented. This type of machine is suitable for wind power in a distributed generation scheme. Cogging torque issues are eliminated by using a stator without iron. This coreless design improves wind´s speed range utilization and reduces total machine weight. Fiber glass is used to assemble the stator winding and magnets are optimized to maximize power density. Finally, a 400 Watt prototype, three phases, double rotor, central stator and 12-pole machines has been manufactured to verify the design proposed. Laboratory setup and experimental results are reported.
