Abstract :
For the purposes of power systems, the most vulnerable place of it is overhead transmission lines under the threat of the lightning. The reason is that the overhead transmission lines are often located in the weald, the extension of lines is too long and its geography span is too large. From the overall perspective, the lightning is the main reason of line trip. So mastering the activity situation of lightning is important to plan transmission lines and prevent lines from lightning damage. To solve the problem, a kind of lightning activity analysis and evaluation system has been developed for the safe of overhead transmission lines. The system could process the lightning activity with statistical analysis and give the corresponding guiding advice. Case studies based on Lightning Location System (LLS) data are presented for demonstrating the effectiveness of the system.
