Power electronics technologies have brought speed, power and new possibilities to motor drive systems. The ranges of power and speed of AC drives have expanded into the ranges that DC drives could nor reach. Electric machines which have new functions have been developed. In this paper, the state-of-the-art of high speed drives and bearingless motors are presented and the prospects of these technologies are described
