Abstract
Information technology will play a major role in every country in their industries, monitoring and control of power generation and distribution systems, gathering of information regarding needs of rural people and online interaction to provide assistance in the areas of skills for management of their electric pump systems, distribution transformers and a host of other such applications. 50% of activities in all countries will be carried out through information technology. This is due to the current availability of low cost personal computers and the high level of applied software which is available. The present paper outlines the role of information technology in the monitoring and control of power distribution systems
