Abstract :
Lack of programmability, traditional IP-based SoC composed of fixed-function ASIC blocks could not fit complex applications well. Application specific instruction-set processor (ASIP) has been proved to be efficient for specific applications. This paper described a heterogeneous multicore SoC named EVMP-SoC, which is specially optimized for embedded visual media applications. We optimized the SoC architecture according to the workload analysis of a typical application. The chip was implemented using SMIC 0.13 um CMOS standard cell library technology. We evaluated this chip with some micro kernels. And through a case study, the chip shows high efficiency and availability.
