Abstract
The emerging healthcare model of accountable care requires sharing of patient health information within a network of care. Adoption and implementation of health information exchanges in support of accountable care organizations depends on a number of factors including value proposition, coordination between participants, and workflow. We examine these factors and propose a framework to improve coordinated action toward the adoption and implementation of health information exchanges. Implications to practice and research of this approach are discussed.
