Abstract :
In MANETs, nodes communicate to each other through multi hop routing, where routes often get disconnected due to random movement of nodes. Recent applications in real world scenario demand realistic networks which can support large number of nodes and hence, the recent researches in MANETs are focused on scalability of these networks, as none of the existing routing protocol addresses the scalability issue. Existing research shows that selection of mobility model can certainly change the performance of MANET protocols. The efficiency of the routing protocols is therefore, needed to be carefully analyzed for different mobility patterns, while considering the scalability of the MANETs. This paper addresses the behavior of two protocols namely Adhoc On Demand Distance Vector (AODV) and Cluster Based Routing Protocol (CBRP) by considering the energy efficiency and scalability. Three mobility models namely Random way point (RWP), Manhattan Grid (MH) and Gauss Markov (GM) are used in this work. The simulation results for different performance parameters established that the cluster based hierarchical routing is more suitable and energy efficient in the presence of mobility for large networks.
