Abstract
In this paper we present the design of a new metamaterial cell which is double negative in permeability and in permittivity. This paper presents a design of a 3D metamaterial based on a symmetrical half ring (SHR-W) unit cell. The effective parameters of the SRH cell are presently negative and exhibit low loss. A 3D metamaterial equivalent model based on SHR-W was used like a lens on top of a patch antenna. The results showed an improvement on the directivity and on the gain. The presented work opens the studied field into several directions, especially for the realization of tuneable metamaterials which can be used within reconfigurable antenna systems
