  • Abstract
This paper deals about a 3D-FEM calculation of single phase induction machines. The modeling of the machine with respect to symmetries and machine characteristics will be described and the obtained results by the 3D-FEM-calculation will be compared with measurement data of a test machine. Furthermore the reasons why only the results obtained from a 3D-FEM calculation and not the results of a 2D-FEM calculation are acceptable will be described too. The main reason is the elliptic magnetic field especially during the start up of the machine. Because of this special feature of single phase induction machines the skewed rotor must be modeled by a 3D-Model or the effects of the skewing will be considered by a 2D-FEM calculation by using a multi-slice technique.
