Abstract :
Accessible courseware design for hearing impaired ensures that the user-interface is perceivable, operable and can be easily understood by all users. Accessible courseware help the disabled to learn to be more independent, besides obtaining similar opportunities as everyone else, thus bridging the gap between them and the normal people. This paper reported findings from the need analysis conducted to determine the requirements and problems faced by hearing impaired children. Questionnaire survey, interviews and class observations involving teachers and students were carried out. Findings include the types of problems faced by children when learning basic literacy and the potential of using multimedia technology and accessibility to motivate students to learn via an interesting experience.
