Abstract :
An efficient adaptive unequal error protection technique is proposed for JPEG2000 codestream transmission over AWGN channels using RCPT codes. Image headers are protected by hybrid FEC/ARQ methods to realize near error-free performance. Quality-layer data packets are protected by a set of RCPT codes based on a rate-distortion methodology. A time-varying channel is adapted for image transmission using a channel operating region segmentation scheme. A sub-optimum rate selection procedure avoids the complicated dynamic programming computation. Simulation results show that separate considerations for header and data packets are necessary when channels are noisy. Reconstructed images data has been obtained to show the effectiveness of the proposed practical rate selection scheme.
