Abstract :
This paper presents a new method for speech-codec detection providing reliable information about the perceived quality of a telephone link. Our specific decomposition of the short-time speech-spectrum into a harmonic and a noise component reveals codec-specific distortions of the speech signal. In conjunction with an appropriate classifier, we thus can identify five different codecs with an error rate of less than 8%.
