Abstract :
Significant advances in the state-of-the-art of externally modulated Nd:YAG solid state laser transmitters, such as enhancements in optical power and the degree of linearization make such transmitters an increasingly effective alternative for transport, broadcasting distribution, and switching of analog AM-vestigial sideband (VSB) and compressed digital video channels. The new capabilities of the externally modulated YAGLink are presented, and three video transport and distribution architectures enabled by its extended performance are explored, i.e., the star-star-bus, the passive distributed star network, and the balanced supertrunk architectures
