Abstract
A digital isotopic level gauge of melting steel was developed to measure the mould level more quickly and accurately. This gauge is made of a gamma-ray radioactive source with nonlinear activity distribution, a nuclear detector and a signal processing unit. a simple and practical real time algorithm has been developed by which the pulse count rate is determined and the signal is filtered. Fuzzy logic is also applied to this gauge to adjust the filter parameter automatically according to variations of the input signal. The results of simulation and application demonstrate that the performances of the melting steel level gauge are upgraded and the needs of continuous casting process control are met.
