Abstract :
In this paper, we propose a new class of 3-dimensional DBE and MPC materials based on layers of tightly arranged coupled transmission line unit cells. We demonstrate that the DBE dispersion of the transmission line unit cell is preserved. However a uniform medium mode is introduced that must be suppressed. This air mode must be suppressed to isolate the slow-wave DBE/MPC modes either via geometry design or with material inclusions.
