Abstract :
In the site grading project, it is important to define the design plane because it produces an effect on the cost and the construction schedule of site grading. At present, the method for the design plane is to define an average vertical elevation according to the balance of cut and fill in a site, which does not consider whether the total earthwork quantity is the minimum. The paper presents a calculation method for the design plane not only considering the balance of cut and fill but also considering the minimum of the total earthwork quantity, according to which it is established for equations of graphic design optimization of land leveling, which includes three parameters for the description of design plane. A MATLAB program is worked out to solving the equations of graphic design optimization. The program outputs are three parameters. It is to provide an open MATLAB code suitable for calculation of excavation volume and fill volume of land leveling in project construction. An engineering example is used to illustrate the application of program.
