Abstract :
A prototype on-line, real-time relative dissipation factor system is described. Selected data recorded during a long-term, more than a year, experiment, conducted in a high-voltage laboratory, is presented. Data taken on “good” current transformers, data indicating the resolution of the system, and data taken during the actual failure of a current transformer are presented. The data presented illustrate the potential for on-line, real-time relative dissipation factor monitoring of fluid-paper insulation systems to help utilities maximize their use of capital intensive assets and reduce the risk of disruptive failures
