Abstract
This work looked on the discharge phenomenon on water surface and underwater when lightning strikes on water surface. It was conducted by using point to plane electrode system in a simulated and bounded seawater environment. Tap water and saline solutions with different conductivity were used as the sample liquids and lightning strike was imitated by applying impulse discharge on the water surface. Discharge characteristics of tap water and saline solution both on water surface and underwater were observed and analyzed by the mean of current magnitude, relation with electrode distance and location, effect of solution conductivity, and current density of each electrode.
