Abstract
To offer insight into Internet characteristics and performances, various aspects of the international network have been explored and many measurements tools have been implemented. A continuous advancement in network characteristics knowledge can help both Internet properties understanding and network protocols improvements. In this paper we investigate the statistical characteristic of the DNS reverse resolution performing measures directly on the Internet. The measures has been performed by a single program running on a host. The host has been selected to have a high uptime and to run on a network with a fast Internet connection. The large amount of retrieved data have been analyzed through exhaustive figures of merit and have designed a summary of several Internet characteristics like IP addresses distribution, number of name servers for each reverse lookup, and relationship between IP address zones and top-levels domain.
