Abstract :
Small valve-regulated lead-acid (VRLA) batteries in gel technology were developed for telecom applied in glass fibre communication-systems. Float tests were carried out at temperatures between 20 and 80°C. Two different temperature ranges were observed: below 55°C, the results of test at 40 to 50°C show good prediction of endurance at low temperatures; and above 55°C, the endurance depends mainly on the water loss and is therefore strongly influenced by battery size and electrolyte volume. In addition, components like valves and terminals were optimized and float tests were carried out to test for reliability
