  • Abstract
It is known that breakdown strength of SF6 is extremely susceptible to non-uniform electric fields and metallic particle contamination, these effects lead to lower the breakdown voltage. Furthermore, from the view point of environmental protection, as SF6 has strong greenhouse effect, the use of SF6 will be strong controlled. Thus, it is needed to develop the alternative dielectric gas or gas mixtures having better insulating characteristics and no greenhouse effect. In this paper particle movement with SF6 and N2 mixtures has been simulated and results have been presented in a single phase isolated conductor GIB. The results have been analyzed and presented. It is observed that 40 percent SF6 and 60 percent N2 gives good results, under this condition the GIS can be operated reliably.
