Abstract
Previous papers examined grooming and protection architectures with optical bypass, for single case studies. Hybrid protection, combining dedicated and shared mesh protection, was found to give the best combination of cost-effectiveness and bandwidth efficiency. We also discuss the concept of topology chains in the modeling and growth of express mesh topologies.
