Title :
An introduction to VSATs and the use of receive-only video on a two-way data network: the impact of VSATs on video teleconferencing
Abstract :
The author discusses VSAT (very-small-aperture terminal) two-way private networks. Several examples, including those of K-Mart, Hewlett-Packard, and Federal Express, are described. She then closely examines the TI-IN Network, which is dedicated to interactive math, science, and language education. The TI-IN Network has been innovative in its methods; in addition to the use of handheld automatic-dial telephones for interaction, TI-IN has developed other tools, such as a writing pad. Besides its coursework, TI-IN provides training for teachers. Some suggestions of future directions for VSAT networks are made
