Abstract :
A discrete method is used to determine the local air bearing stiffness/damping at each air bearing pad (positive) and recess region (negative). The finite element model of the HDD with such stiffness/damping in the form of springs is used to study the shock response of disk driver at a half-sinusoidal acceleration shock (1 ms/63 g). Results show the by increasing 5 times of local stiffness on top-trailing pad, the response after 4 ms is changed much due to the response phase is little shifted.
