Abstract
Penetration of wind power in power systems causes power quality problems. Consuming large amount of reactive power and injection of harmonic currents are two main problems. In this paper a new control scheme for Energy Capacitor System (ECS) is presented and is applied to compensate reactive power demand and harmonic currents. For this purpose power quality indices according to IEC standard are used. The new scheme is simulated using PSCAD/EMTDC in a grid including a wind farm and a nonlinear load. Simulation results clearly show that this control scheme which applied in ECS improves power quality as per IEC standard as well as reduces harmonics of supply current.
