Abstract :
The design and implementation of a DSP-based Mossbauer spectrometer is analyzed. A brief description of the Mossbauer effect and its associated instrumentation is given, and the specifications for the acquisition system are discussed. A detailed description of both hardware and software for a specific application is made, showing the tradeoffs involved. The design uses a 96 bit Floating Point Digital Signal Processor and fast Field Programmable Gate Arrays to optimize performance, reliability and chip count
