Abstract :
This contribution discusses some aspects of the design of shallow flush-mounted UHF antennas for SATCOM to be integrated into modern manned or unmanned aircraft. Starting from classical solutions for such antennas, modern design techniques such as particle swarm optimization are applied to alleviate the rather difficult task of generating suitable matching circuits by hand. For all other needed components of the antenna readily available designs from literature can be adapted and used.
