  • Abstract
    In this paper, we investigate the route discovery process to support inter-piconet communications for 60 GHz based wireless personal area networks (WPANs). We propose a mesh enhancement mechanism based on the concept of simultaneously operating piconets (SOP) proposed in. Our proposal provides better support for radio relay devices that use 60 GHz radio technology. Based on the enhanced SOP mesh topology, we evaluate several route discovery mechanisms in terms of route discovery latency, involved overhead, and the possibility to discover the shortest path. Extensive simulations have been carried out. Our results indicate the feasibility to support indoor room-to-room communications by using 60 GHz radio.
