Abstract :
In this paper, a basic study on the realizability of a polarization control function for a microstrip antenna is carried out. There are two types of orthogonal polarization, namely, horizontal/vertical linear polarization and right/left-handed circular polarization. The orthogonal transmission and reception function of the conventional antenna itself is fixed, because there is no switching function in the antenna. If polarization switching and polarization angle control became possible with the same antenna, the flexibility in the design of the system configuration would be much more expanded. As a basic study of polarization control antenna technology, technical possibilities for a microstrip antenna are discussed here. Specifically, with regard to a square microstrip antenna, it is possible to realize the orthogonal polarization control by implementing a switching function of high frequency surface currents. The possibility of its realization is verified by electromagnetic field simulation (by the FDTD method).
