Abstract :
In order to exploit biological molecular motors as nanomachines, we need to determine the physical principles that govern their operation. Here we first consider how a processive molecular motor utilizes heat and chemical free energy in order to perform mechanical work. We then examine the features that would allow such a motor to synthesize ATP
