Abstract :
INMETCO, a subsidiary of Inco Limited, is the only facility in North America that provides the high temperature metals recovery (HTMR) process for nickel-cadmium secondary batteries. In 1993, INMETCO recycled more than 2,200 tons of nickel-cadmium, nickel-iron and nickel metal hydride batteries. The paper describes Inco´s experience in metals recovery, traces the development and explains operation of the HTMR Process and outlines INMETCO´s plans for cadmium recovery at its facility in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, USA
