Abstract :
This paper presents a new method for generation expansion planning (GEP) in private generation companies (GenCos) who act in a competitive electricity market. The method uses the historical available market information to form a statistical background for the problem, and then applies an inverse optimization procedure and some simple indices to provide an assessment for several expansion alternatives. Finally, the method is tested on a real size GenCo who acts in a real life market
