Abstract
NASA has set clear goals to strategically accomplish its Vision for Space Exploration. The Earth Science Division has the responsibility to implement NASA\´s Goal 3A, to "study Earth from space to advance scientific understanding and meet societal needs." The science questions established by the science, and research and analysis communities, within and outside NASA, encompass the Earth\´s system changes, human-induced changes, human civilization consequences, and system forcings resulting in seven research focus areas that guide and ultimately direct future Earth science missions and research. The research conducted, year to year, in Earth science aims to address and understand the dynamic processes our planet experiences and attempts to improve climate, weather, and natural hazard predictions which all have subsequent impacts on human lives and safety.
