Abstract :
Education should be oriented to scientific and practical applications. Therefore, we propose students to study with methods "Learning by Doing", "Project Based Training" and "Solving Problems in an Efficient Way". Through this we introduce them to industry style development work. This paper describes the process how we teach students to learn development activities by rebuilding a standard PC Power Supply into a 36V/12V DC supply which is to be used in small electric vehicles as on board supply. Basis is knowledge on essential parts of general Electrical Engineering, measurement methodology, electrical machines, electronics, power electronics, and thermal engineering basics. All disciplines are to be joined for a successful completion of the task. The solution way is NOT straight-forwards but necessarily includes bend and turns and re-starts. An effective education process has to allow that. Documentation is also an important part. Finally, the project is to be described in such a way that it is suitable for publication. Students are herewith introduced into the scientific community.
