  • Abstract
The effect of various manufacturing operations on contact resistance is investigated based on the most frequently used precious metal alloys (silver, silver cadmium oxide, and silver-copper alloy) for rivets. The variables included contact geometry, alloy, cleaning methods, and surface roughness, thus duplicating conditions found in most silver contact manufacturing and assembly operations. The results indicate the importance of choosing the correct cleaning method for the type of application for which the contact will be used, especially at dry-circuit and low-current levels. Surface finish and contact geometry did not have a significant effect on contact resistance of a clean contact
