Abstract :
Optics allows us to use wavelength division for switching applications. Several architectures of wavelength routing switching systems have been proposed. In this paper, we develop a performance analysis of these systems by establishing a functional equivalence between spatial switching and wavelength switching. Thus, the methods and results obtained for classical spatial switching systems can be used for wavelength routing systems. In particular, the cell loss probability for an ATM switch is analysed by using a Markovian traffic model for video sources. The results obtained are very useful for the design, optimisation and evaluation of future wavelength switching systems
