Abstract :
There are a large number of parameters affecting the current flow between the contact surfaces of industrial connector parts. The results of an experiment made on different kinds of aluminum alloy contacts which are used in the power industry are discussed. Three different parameters that have a predominant influence on the contact were selected. The performance of the contact for each combination of those parameters was tested. Parameter selection is discussed. Experimental techniques are described, and measurement results are given. Data processing methods are discussed, taking into consideration the large number of significant parameters and to the influence of nonnumerical factors. Manufacture of test samples is described. Test results show that the studied contacts are in accordance with NEMA CC1 and ANSI C119.4 standards. Good design of the contact, by choosing appropriate surfaces sizes and bolts, is necessary to obtain contacts which have a acceptable performance
