  • Abstract
The stability of the contact is a determining factor in the reliable operation of electrical contact devices. Some methods of improving their stability are reported. The results of this study show that the contact properties of aluminium can be significantly improved by alloying with 0.5% Mg and 0.3% Si, thus making aluminium joints as stable as those of copper. The use of a conducting grease containing Ni particles significantly improves the contact stability of aluminium joints since these rupture the oxide film and establish a larger metal-metal contact area protected from oxidation by the grease in the gaps between the contacting asperities
