Abstract :
A controlled system consists of controller and controlled plant. After a controller has been designed and built, it is essential to conduct closed-loop tests to verify the controller´s performance. This obviously requires that the controlled plant be available. For many power system control applications, it is very difficult and costly to build even a prototype of the controlled plant in a laboratory or in an equipment manufacturer test facility. For obvious reasons in the power industry, it is very rarely allowed to shut down the plant operation to perform tests. For both technical and economic considerations, it is thus desirable to have a dynamic system simulator which can physically simulate the dynamic behavior of the considerable large inter-connected power system in real time. In this paper, close-loop testing of a FACTS controller for mitigation of inter-area oscillation in large inter-connected power system is presented. The structure of the simulator is simple and easy to implement. It is accurate and highly convenient
