Abstract :
Microstrip antennas have played an important role in the field of wireless communications in the past few decades. It is required in applications such as mobile handsets, PC cards or in PCS, miniaturized as well as wideband antennas. Engineers and researchers have made extensive efforts to miniaturize microstrip antennas, but small antennas inherently have narrow bandwidth. However, in order to transmit and receive more information, large bandwidths are required and bandwidth enhancement is currently a popular research. Some common broadbanding techniques are the use of multimode resonators, use of parasitic elements with main radiating patch and use of stacked patches [R. Garg et al., 2001]. All these techniques result in increasing the antenna size. Therefore, the issue of antenna miniaturization is of major interest [A.K. Skriverik et al., August 2001]. In [(S.K Sharma et al., June 2002) (S.K. Sharma et al.)], a monopole slot cut at one corner of the ground plane was presented with simulated and experimental results. In this paper, the monopole slot at the center of the ground plane is parametrically studied for its impedance bandwidth (S1/sub 1/= -10 dB) using method of moments (MOM) software Ensemble 8.0. The radiation characteristics are also investigated using finite element method (FEM) software, HFSS.
