Abstract :
The GIL is a transmission system for the transmission of high power levels over long distances, to solve specific routing or access problems, or as connections in power plants and substations. As a gas-insulated system, the GIL has the advantage of having electrical behavior similar to an overhead line. This is of importance to system operation. The GIL has, because of the large cross section of the conductor, the lowest electrical losses of all available transmission systems. The personnel and environmental safety in surrounding a GIL is very high because the metallic enclosure is reliable protection from external magnetic fields and internal faults
