Abstract
The maintenance concepts adopted in South Africa are used to illustrate some of the strategies available to a telephone network operator in Africa. Attention is given to preventive vs. corrective maintenance and to maintenance staffing strategy. Maintenance aids and management of resources are also considered, with emphasis on tools and testers, manpower, maintenance instructions, training and replacement equipment
