Abstract
Large mode area photosensitive fibres have been fabricated and gratings written in such fibres have been incorporated into an all-fibre CPA system. Compared to standard fibre Bragg gratings (FBGs) these gratings have a reduced effective nonlinearity and hence higher power levels are obtainable before the limiting effects of the intrinsic Kerr nonlinearity is felt. We obtained good quality picosecond pulses with pulse energies in the microjoule regime and peak powers as high as 500 kW
